Smoking ban implemented across Wales

From 6am on the 2nd April, it will be illegal to smoke in any business premises in Wales - 3rd April 2007

The much publicised smoking ban was finally implemented in Wales yesterday.

From now on all business premises in Wales will be required by law to be smoke-free zones. Many workplaces are nowadays in any event but the ban may hit pubs and restaurants particularly hard.

Employers, managers and those responsible for business premises will need to display appropriate notices and to take reasonable steps to ensure that staff, customers, members and visitors are aware of the new law and that they do not smoke in their premises.

The local Councils will have the job of enforcing the bans and there is the likelihood of a 2000+ fine for any businesses caught breaching the new rules. These changes will go a long way to making the work place safer. Anyone who has been injured in an accident at work, may be able to claim compensation.
