Accidents on a building site due to unsafe walkways and access points

Building site accidents - walkway unsafe leading to an injury to a construction worker

Building sites are undoubtedly one of the most dangerous places to work and a day to day basis. There are many workplace laws and regulations to protect workers but unfortunately because of cost cutting or lack of awareness many sites are in a dangerous state inviting accidents to occur.

CASE STUDY

Client injured whilst working on a building site

The client was a labourer on a building site. He had just started work on the site and was in the process of walking between one building to another when he noticed the main thoroughfare had been blocked by a large pile of sand.

He had no choice but to go over the top of the mound and in doing so he crashed to the ground falling heavily. He fractured his ankle and was unable to work for 8 weeks.

The site management were guilty of failing to provide adequate induction training (the client had received no training whatsoever because none was available) and to ensure walkways, access points and thoroughfares were free of obstruction.

The site management admitted liability and their insurers dealt with our clients claim for damages and costs in full. The matter was settled amicably with no court proceedings being necessary.
