February sees the launch of the Shattered Lives Campaign 2009
Phase 2 of the Shattered Lives Campaign hopes to raise awareness of the dangers slips, trips and falls in the workplace present - 19th February 2009
Workplace accidents which involved
slips, trips or falls from
height resulted in 61 people dying last year.
Last year also saw a further 14,000 suffering
serious
injuries at work as the result of a
slip, trip
or fall.
These figures have seen the release of phase two of
the Health and Safety Executives (HSE) Shattered
Lives Campaign, which hopes to raise awareness
of the tragic consequences these accidents can have
on the victims and their loved ones lives.
It also wants encourage employers in collaboration
with employees to take action to prevent these
unnecessary
workplace accidents.
If workers come across possible
hazards at work, the message will be take
action, don't leave it and assume someone else will
take care of it because by then it could be too
late.
The cost to British society because of accidents
resulting in serious injury or fatalities from
workplace slips, trips and falls last year is
estimated to be around £700 million.
