Ladder Exchange 2008 begins in September
The HSE are running their ladder exchange campaign offering employers the chance to exchange damaged or unsuitable ladders at a reduced cost - 16th July 2008
Falls at work from
height continue to be the most common cause of death
and one of the most common causes of
serious injury at work. That’s why from
September 2008 the
Health and Safety Executive (HSE) will be again
running their 'Ladder Exchange' campaign which aims
to highlight the dangers of using unsafe and
unsuitable ladders, and give employers the
opportunity to exchange unsuitable or dangerous
ladders for cut price new ones.
Falls from
ladders account for around a third of all
falls from
height at work with on average 13 people being
killed each year, and a further 1,200 suffering
serious injuries from these
accidents
at work. Some of the most common causes for
falls from ladders are over reaching, slipping off,
ladders breaking or unstable ladders falling over.
The HSE introduced in April 2005
the Work at Height Regulations 2005 which apply
to any work at height where there is the risk of
people falling and suffering personal injury. This
placed responsibility on the employers, the self
employed or controllers of work to ensure the
correct health and safety
measures are in place and followed.
The Work at Height (Amendment) Regulations 2007
came into effect during April 2007 which applies to
those who provide leadership in recreation type
activities at height for one or more people.
If you want to get involved in the ladder exchange
campaign because you use a ladder at work and it in
not the right one for the job, you should be able to
do this by contacting the
ladder association or one
of the many participating companies like HSS Hire,
Ladderstore.com, SGB Hire and Sale or Speedy Hire.
