medical costs from negligent parties
-
21st February 2007
The NHS in Scotland are
planning to recover accident related medical costs
for emergency treatment directly from the insurers
of liable parties.
At the moment their is
a scheme for recovering Road Traffic Accident fees
for A&E treatment but this will now be rolled out to
include other types of injury cases such as
accidents at work or public liability trips and
slips.
The pilot scheme may be
rolled out to further Trusts in the UK if it proves
a commercial and administrative success. It is
expected that the scheme will allow the NHS to
recoup up to £20 million in fees from the insurance
sector.
The NHS RTA recovery
scheme has been in operation since 1999.
