A published survey from the Chartered Institute
for Personnel and Development (CIPD), suggests more
employers are using "Well-being" schemes as a means
to reduce absenteeism -
18th July 2007
Recent research shows that employee sickness absence
is on the increase. this had led to employers
looking more seriously at schemes that were
previously thought to be too sympathetic to their
employees to be taken seriously.
Well being schemes
are now being adopted by more employers in the UK.
The schemes focus on counselling and re-introduction
to the workplace for long term injured or ill
employees whilst also dealing with short term
absence, genuine or not.
The link between good health and sound business
management seems finally to have been made.
People
injured in the workplace may be able to make
accident compensation claims for pain and suffering
compensation as well as pursuing recovery of their
wages if they were not paid whilst absent from work.
The survey questioned
over hundreds of organisations, and revealed
employee well-being has recently gained favour with
management teams who previously deemed the projects
a waste of money.
