Property development health and safety campaign
A new campaign hopes to highlight the health and safety responsibilities of property developers, renovators and investors - 23rd February 2009
In a bid to reduce the number of
accidents at work
in the property development sector,
the Health and
Safety Executive (HSE) are today launching a
campaign to make business aware of their health and
safety duties.
Property investors, developers and renovators alike
all have a duty to understand their health and
safety responsibilities, which should help reduce
the number of injuries at work suffered by people
working on these projects.
Chris Tisi who chairs the campaigns stakeholder
group who have been working closely with the HSE
said: "I’ve been involved in development of property
in various capacities over 35 years and found that
health and safety has to be an integral part of any
project in bringing it to completion on time and to
budget. In my experience a safe and healthy site is
a successful site."
Last year there were 38 fatalities and many more
suffering ill health as a result of
workplace
accidents in the property development sector, which
may have been significantly lower had the
correct
health and safety measures been in place.
The HSE decided to run this campaign when they
realised that a large number of property developers
were unaware of their legal obligations regarding
health and safety issues.
