Health and safety statistics for 2007/08 published

The Health and Safety Executive has released their statistics for work related incidents in the year 2007/08 - 2nd November 2008

 

The Health and Safety Executive have released their statistics for the year 2007/08, some of the key points are covered below.

It reports that 229 workers died as a result of accidents at work, that’s around 0.0008% of the workforce. The UK Statistics Authority's Labour Force Survey shows that 299,000 reportable injuries at work occurred, though under RIDDOR only 136,771 have reported suffering an injury at work.

Around 34 million working days were lost, 28 million days because of ill health that is work related, and the remaining 6 million days as a result of suffering workplace injuries.

There were 563,000 new cases of work related illness in the year, with 1.3 million people overall who had worked in the year suffering in total. There are 2.1 million people in all who claim to be suffering from ill health are a result of work they have done.
