Harrogate seminar promoting the Better Backs Campaign
Harrogate Local Authority in conjunction with the Health & Safety Executive is providing a free seminar promoting the Better Backs Campaign - 13th February 2008
Harrogate
Local Authority is teaming up with
the Health and
Safety Executive (HSE) to try and educate local
businesses about back problems with free seminars as
part of the
Better Backs Campaign.
The Better Backs Campaign is a national one trying
to address
back pain at work and upper limb disorders
(ULDs), which are still the greatest cause of
ill health at work.
The campaign hopes to promote the use of aids to
assist in
lifting
and handling, which should help reduce the
occurrences of
back injuries at work. The latest campaign has
been expanded form previous campaigns to include
ULDs and musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs).
The HSE has particular concerns with the food and
manufacturing industries where
lifting injury at work accounts for 60 percent
of reported incidents with a further 35 percent of
workplace injuries as a
result of manual handling. Awkward movements and
repetitive tasks can result in ULDs which in turn
could lead to prolonged pain and absence from work.
The free seminar is to be held on the 19th February
2008 at The Pavilions of Harrogate at The Great
Yorkshire Showground.
