Heathrow tragedy as worker dies

A man was fatally crushed under a small vehicle whilst working by Terminal One  - 26th March 2008

An airport worker was tragically killed at Heathrow Airport when he was crushed to death beneath an airport buggy.

The man in his 50s was trapped beneath a small vehicle on Tuesday and suffered fatal head injuries dying at the scene.

It is reported that no passengers or aircraft were involved in the incident next to Terminal One. The deceased worked for Aviance the ground handling company.

BAA the airport owners have said that an investigation to find the cause of this tragic incident is under way.

Many unnecessary tragedies caused by workplace accidents could be avoided if procedures were in place, and followed, which safe guard employees’ health and safety. Health and safety at work is of paramount importance in the fight against accidents at work, it's not just the employers’ responsibility, but employees also must take responsibility.
