BP slammed in critical report on safety failures - 21st March 2007

Bp were criticised for numerous key failures in a report conducted by US investigators into the Texas refinery explosion that killed 15 people and injured hundreds

The report says that, while employees working at the refinery had been guilty of mistakes, the true cause of the incident was management's lack of commitment to safety. Citing internal BP documents the CSB report comments that cost-cutting and budget pressures from BP Group managers impaired process safety performance at Texas City.

The 2005 explosion was one of the most serious US industrial accidents in recent years. Many claims for work accident compensation will now be processed.
